LEOPOLODO PRESAS
He was born on February 21, 1915 in Buenos Aires.

In 1938 he graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts of the Argentine Institute of Graphic Arts. Spilimbergo inspired his first approaches to painting.

In 1939 he did his first exhibition as part of the “Orion” group along with Barragán, Forte, Ideal Sánchez, Pierre and Venier among others. At the same time he organized a design workshop of fabric stamping.

In 1946 he received both the first praises from the critics and several awards which encouraged him to pursue his passion. In 1950, sponsored by Marcelo De Ridder, he exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art. This exhibition was such a success that it allowed him to travel to Europe, France, Spain, England and Belgium with the aim of mastering his art. In 1956 he travelled to USA and was invited to Biennial of Venice.

In 1963 he was awarded with the Palanza Prize. Later he made many successful exhibitions in the country and abroad. In 1967 he made a retrospective with 108 works in the disappeared Gallery of Modern Art and Huntington Hartford Collection of New Cork. He was elected president of the Argentine Society of Plastic Artists.

Between 1979 and 1987 he moved to Paris but he sent works to be exhibited in Buenos Aires.

In 1994 a great retrospective is organized in the National Halls of Culture (Palais de Glace) by Zurbarán Gallery in Buenos Aires.
