SANTIAGO COGORNO
Argentine painter born on April 20, 1915 in Buenos Aires. In 1923 he moved with his family to Italy and in 1925 he met Raúl Soldi who initiated him in painting. Later he continued learning from his teacher Atilio Bernasconi.

Between 1932 and 1935 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera ran by Aldo Capri. With the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, Cogorno came back to Argentina where he stayed until 1946. Since then, he has participated in numerous exhibitions in Buenos Aires, Milan, Rome, Genoa and Brasilia.

In 1956 he received the “Augusto Palanza” Award and participated in the Sao Paulo Biennial. In 1958, before a new journey to Italy, he exhibited in Witcomb Gallery of Buenos Aires. He was sent to the Venice Biennial and he was awarded with the National Exhibition Prize.

In 1966 he was awarded as the most outstanding artist of his generation by the Art Critic Association. Shortly after, he made his first individual sculpture exhibition at Rubbers Gallery.

In 1976 there was a retrospective of his work in Palatina Gallery and a second sculpture exhibition.

In the ‘80s he made important exhibitions in the Austral Gallery in the city of La Plata and in the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts in Bahía Blanca.
